Climate Control

How amazing would it be if you did not have to control the temperature inside the cabin of your car over and over again? This is where the latest climate control in cars comes into play. Your car will know exactly what temperature you want inside and it shall maintain the same – it is the simplest explanation of climate control systems in cars. Five components comprise an automotive climate system – evaporator, compressor, condenser, receiver, Fluid Transport, and expansion device.

How does Climate Control Work?

The main purpose of climate control in cars is to enhance or decrease the cabin temperature easily. It uses a vapor compression system and alters the air temperature below ambient temperature. The vapor compression system works on the same principle as refrigerators and cools down air entering the cabin. This system is reversed if hot air is required to regulate the cabin environment. Here is the procedure in detail.

  • Cars absorb ambient air.
  • The heated ambient air passes from the evaporator, where hot air is cooled down by liquid refrigerant.
  • To increase the temperature, cooled air is transferred to the condenser rather than the evaporator. In a condenser, it is heated under pressure and transferred to the compressor.
  • The compressor then circulates cool/hot air in the cabin as per the need.

What are the Benefits of Climate Control in Cars?

The automatic climate control system in modern cars is the result of inculcating artificial intelligence in cars. It operates on the key-coded setting and can operate independently of humans. This system can even regulate the temperature as per the intensity of sunlight or the quality of ambient air.

Convenience

When controlling the temperature manually, air flows and other settings must be managed separately. Whereas, the automatic climate control in cars can manage everything and other settings in cars on its own with a push of one button.

Quality of air

The climate control also manages the quality of ambient air absorbed to regulate the temperature. It uses fragrances and air purifiers to increase breathability within the car cabin.

Connected Digital Control

Advanced and intelligent control systems can be operated digitally. If your car is connected, you can manage the operations from any remote location.

Comfort

The system is capable of maintaining varied temperatures within a single cabin. This facility increases convenience and makes the journey more comfortable and enjoyable.

The Difference Between Air Conditioning and Automatic Climate Control

The air conditioner and climate control are terms that are used interchangeably. However, they have nuanced differences. Both systems cool the air using a refrigerator that passes through a compressor, condenser, and evaporator. They also heat the air similarly by drawing hot coolant from the engine and passing it through a heater core, that heats the air pumped into the car cabin. The major difference between the two is how they are controlled.

Cars and vehicles without automatic climate control and just an AC system typically have only one mode selector, a fan speed, and a thermostat knob to control the cabin temperature. The fan speed knob generally has four numbered settings, with the higher setting blowing more air through the vents. The position of the thermostat knob is generally proportional to the maximum amount of cooling or heating that the AC system can provide. The mode selection knob allows the driver to direct the air to the floor or defrost as required. The climate control system relies on computerized inputs rather than using analog knobs. The system allows you to set a specific temperature rather than having a controller that sets the cabin to an unclear temperature. They will sometimes be in half-degree increments, ranging from around 60-86 degrees Fahrenheit.

Wrapping Up

The advanced climate control systems in the latest cars generally have an auto function that allows the system to set the fan speed at the necessary level to achieve the desired temperature. Some cars also allow passengers to set the climate in their part of the cabin, allowing them to set varied temperatures depending on their personal preferences despite being in the same car. Overall, climate control systems are superior to traditional air conditioning systems, since they allow passengers to control the A/C system more conveniently and precisely.
